I also created my undemanding about research question that includes two types of question such as primary and secondary research question. I learned that the primary research question is based on numeric data while the secondary research question relies on non- numeric data. I understood about the creation of research hypothesis to obtain the favorable outcome in future. I also understood about the research design that will be crucial to identify the techniques to complete the research objectives in a systematic way. I learned about two kinds of research methods such as qualitative and quantitative research method. In addition to this, I created my depth understanding about the qualitative research that will be beneficial in future to perform any research effectively. Along with this, it can be said that there are different kinds of methods that are involved in the observation, document review system, formulation of the theory, and arrangement of in-depth interviews. At the same time, it can be evaluated that qualitative research supported to obtain fresh information towards research issues. It will be also effective to obtain the accurate outcome in the specified time and cost (Dua, and Du, 2016).I also created my knowledge about research approaches and research philosophy that supports to perform the research activity in an effective way. Research Paper-Charles Darwin free essay sample

Charles Darwin and his Impact on Science Charles Darwin was a scientist, specifically a naturalist, in the mid to late 1800’s. He proposed many theories to the world of natural science that were later proven to be laws, which shows that he had a huge impact on the science world. His two most important advances were the Theory of Evolution and the Theory of Natural Selection. He also studied the importance of Genetics. Darwin’s ideas have also had issues with religions, but they have still been proven to be correct. I did all of my research on the internet, and was very intrigued by what I found. I learned a lot by doing this paper, and I am still continuing to learn. I chose to only use Internet research because it had the most information and was the most easily accessible. The internet is full of scholarly journals and other websites that are present so that you can learn information. We will write a custom essay sample on Research Paper-Charles Darwin or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Charles Darwin and his studies are very controversial, so there are endless amounts of information about him and what he did, especially here. This internet research led me to a journal named Genetics, which I have continued to read even after the research for this paper and the annotated bibliography. This research enabled me to learn and inform a lot about Charles Darwin and his advances in science. His theory of evolution explains what we have been puzzled by for centuries, which is how we humans came into being. This theory states that all human, animal, or plant came from common ancestry (Wikipedia). Darwin’s theory of natural selection states that the better, more advanced traits in a population become more popular than the lesser traits (Wikipedia). Natural selection plays a huge part in the role of evolution. This is because in order to evolve, the being needs to have a better trait to evolve into. For example, the human toes have adapted so that we can walk steadily on a surface. Darwin also studied genetics, however he did not make nearly as much progress as his studies of evolution and natural selection. This is because he failed to grasp an understanding of something that Gregor Mendel, a famous Geneticist, did accomplish, which was how inheritance worked. I also learned that there was, and still are, a lot of controversy between religions and Darwin. Many religions deny Darwin because they believe the world came about the way that their religions said, such as Christianity and the book of Genesis in the Bible. They have also come up with their own ideas about evolution, which are less plausible to scientists, such as intelligent design creationism. The people that believe in intelligent design creationism are called creationists. They believe that evolution may have occurred slightly by natural selection, but a greater being introduced the life forms onto earth. These results showed that even though he was doubted, Charles Darwin was a genius in his field of interest. He produced many laws that are still leading beliefs in natural science today. Evolution and natural selection are the central ideas in modern biology, therefore his laws are what all science and research in biology are based off of. Darwin has been compared to Galileo, Einstein, and others for his production of the laws that hold such importance in the science world. Darwin was, and still is, doubted by a few, even though his studies that state life on earth has evolved have never been refuted. All in all, I have showed that Darwin was a genius of his time. He proposed two theories to natural science that have never been proven wrong, even though many have tried to disprove it. Many religions have issues with the ideas of Darwin, which is mainly the reason that his theories have been denied, and this inhibits the theories to move forward at their full potential. All of my research was done online, which is risky in some cases, but I am confident that my resources were credible. Charles Darwin has had a huge impact on science not only in the past, but still today. His ideas are still continuing to grow even though he is no longer here, and I believe that his ideas will never be proven wrong.

Taboo Religion vs. Government free essay sample

Church, religion, belief, government? Whenever somebody mentions religion and the government in the same sentence, it seems to be very controversial. The word religion seems to frighten most of society these days, whereas the government and/or politics are discussed frequently. There is a thin line between religion and government. What is religion exactly? How do we as a society view religion differently than we have in the past? The relationship between government and religion is quite controversial. What are politics have to do with religion? If we as a country have the right to freedom of speech and/or beliefs, why are we keeping them hidden? Has the government taken total control without us noticing? The meaning of Spirituality is an inner path enabling a person to discover the essence of his/her being. Spiritual practices, including meditation, prayer and contemplation, are intended to develop an individuals inner life. We will write a custom essay sample on Taboo: Religion vs. Government or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Whereas religion is an organized collection of beliefs and world views. Many religions have symbols and sacred histories that explain the meaning of life, origin of life and the Universe. The easiest way to define religion is to refer to it as a belief in, or the worship of a god or gods. Religion has been a significant part our society and culture since the beginning of human civilization. The origins of religious beliefs in our ancestors are uncertain, yet the great world religions started as the movements of enlightenment and revitalization for communities seeking more answers to their problems. A lack of written records results in the fact that most of the knowledge about pre-historic religion is from the archaeological records and other indirect sources. Religious belief is the belief in the reality of the mythological, supernatural, or spiritual parts of a religion. Religious belief is distinct from religious practice with some believers not practicing religion and some practitioners not believing religion. Religious beliefs often relate to the existence, characteristics and worship of a deity or deities, divine intervention in the universe and human life, or the deontological explanations for the values and practices centered on the teachings of a spiritual leader or group. To say that there is a â€Å"relationship† between government and religion is touchy. Politics are different from religion, but with our country, have a similar bond. Politics is from Greek: politikos, meaning of, for, or relating to citizens. It is also the practice and theory of influencing other people on a civic or individual level. Basically, it refers to achieving and exercising positions of organized control over a human community, which is particularly a state. The separation of church and state can signify how religion has become it’s own category. It is also the distance in the relationship between organized religion and the nation state. The phrase separation of church and state itself does not appear in the United States Constitution. The First Amendment states that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. However, the first amendment seems to be twisted and manipulated quite often. Government says we have the freedom of speech, religion, beliefs, etc. Based upon biased opinions, religious discrimination takes place. The First Amendment â€Å"prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances. † This same amendment was made, on December 15, 1791, as one of the ten amendments that comprise the Bill of Rights. Religious freedom in the United States is a right. Freedom of religion or Freedom of belief is a principle that supports the freedom of an individual or community, in public or private, to organized religion or belief in teaching, practice, and worship. The idea is generally known to include the freedom to change religion or to not follow any religion. The separation does not limit all elements of religion. For example, the countrys currency has the motto In God We Trust. When Congress begins its session, they begin it with a prayer. As well as the Pledge of Allegiance, which contains the phrase, one nation, under God. Court rulings have upheld these religious references, officially viewing them as non-substantive ceremonial deism. This basically is just a legal term used for religious statements that are by tradition and have no religious context. Recent lawsuits have unsuccessfully tried to challenge this term and/or view. There have been some expressions of religion on public property, including certain displays of the Ten Commandments in courtrooms or Nativity scenes on public land have been ruled to be unconstitutional. For instance, a religious group cannot perform human sacrifice under the veil of separation of church and state because the government views it as murder and murder is illegal. Have we been suppressed to hiding our faith and/or beliefs? Most people in today’s society do not want to be viewed as stupid in the age of technology, or they want to hide their beliefs in front of someone who is trying to sway their beliefs a different way. Its easier to just smile and nod. Of course persecution is a huge reason to hide beliefs as well in specific countries. The government has different views on subjects ass religion. Most of these subjects are biased or personal opinions and do not accommodate the â€Å"fine line† between them. So why is religion considered taboo? Why does the government become so contradicting when speaking about specific religious aspects of society. Clearly there is religion behind everything we have known.

Compare the way death is presented in MTB and OMFS Essays

Compare the way death is presented in MTB and OMFS Essays Compare the way death is presented in MTB and OMFS Essay Compare the way death is presented in MTB and OMFS Essay Essay Topic: Seamus Heaney Poems Both MTB and OMFS are both poems of similarity as they both speak out the loss of a child. There are however many differences in the two poems. MTB is written by thirty years old, Seamus Heaney looking from the perspective of his younger self when he brother died and explains the gradual understanding of the death. Benjamin Johnson writes differently in OMFS, about the loss of his son, at the time of the passing away. This difference already begins my comparison as the ages of both narrators influences both the poems greatly. MTB has a lack of understanding in the memories as they are remembered by a child; however, OMFS has the more mature tone because its coming straight from an adult. The two poems may be written about the same topic, but there are many subtle differences contained within the wording and the background. Heaney wrote MTB in 1968, when he was 29, but Johnson wrote OMFS more than 350 years ago, in 1616. These time stamps altar the way we read the poems immediately because Johnson was writing in a completely different time. Then world he lived in was a time of low sanitation, scarce amounts of food and therefore child mortality rate of 20-40%. 1616 was also a time when a man wouldnt show emotion so crying over his son was not expressed in the OMFS. Johnson however tells us I met my father crying, so the time must have changed to make this socially acceptable. The opening line to OMFS begins Farewell thou child of my right hand. There isnt anything ambiguous about it, we know immediately a child has died. Broken down into two sections, this line already shows us the tone of the poem. Farewell thou child shows us from the very start that this is a poem where something has gone and its not returning. Also the poem is addressed to the child, not about it. Unlike MTB this is a way of showing the authors grief directly rather than through words and emotions. [T]hou child of my right hand makes the child seem more than just a person to Johnson, but more like a partner. Its frequently said how you right hand man is your best friend and most trusted companion, also in ways of the Gods; the right hand man would have been an accomplice or a personal messenger so we really see the seriousness of how much the child meant to Johnson. Heaneys beginning to MTB is completely different in comparison. I sat all morning in the college sick bay is a much more laid back start to a poem as its extremely simple linguistically, using everyday words and writing in a journalistic form. Its a very detached sentence which really kicks off the poem with no messing about. Compared with the complexity of Johnsons writing this is extremely bland and almost un-meaningful. Of course its not un-meaningful at all because as we progress into the poem the language changes becoming more complicated, for example the description of wearing a poppy bruise is not as obvious as the first line. The two lines, although they prepare us for similar poems on child deaths, start us in very obvious different ways as MTB does not prepare us for a poem about death. The first line of it sets us up for a poem about a holiday for teenagers or possibly someone going home early as theyre ill whereas OMFS immediately plunges into the concept of somebody lost. Both Heaney and Johnson are both from religious backgrounds but both have different styles which are inflicted into their poems. Heaney was from a strict catholic background and Johnson was in a time where everyone was strictly protestant. Therefore they both included a significant amount of religious context in their writing. Johnson says, tho wert lent to me and I thee pay which gives the impression he believes God leant him his son and when his time was up, the bill of life was paid back. This shows how strongly he has faith in God and is being consoled by the effects of religion because its almost as if hes saying that God knows what hes doing. Heaney goes about it differently, saying Snow drops and candles soothed the bedside. The candle and snow drops are both symbols of serenity and peace, showing how the dead child is now comfortable. Also because snow drops are white it shows the purity of this, and they care known to come out at the beginning of spring so can be seen as a new life starting somewhere else. In both poems, the deaths seem very soothing. Heaney says the candles soothed the bedside and Johnson says Rest is a soft peace. This imagery seems more like the children are sleeping though, rather than dead. Both the writers seem strong through their poems, however, Johnson does say could I loose all father which can be interpreted in different ways. We could see it as him saying hes contemplating suicide, but I think we know this wouldnt have been an option as this would only send him to hell. I think it would be more correct to see it as him simply relinquishing fatherhood now. Johnsons poem seems to see death as a heroic thing as he is writing the poem in heroic couplets, and refers to the death and something he should envie. Heaneys poem however seems to see it more as a dire thing and the death of his brother was seen as a hard blow. Both of the poets mention how old the dead children were, but neither of them actually says so. Heaney sneaks it in as he ends the poem a four foot box, a foot for every year and Johnson says seven yeeres tho wert lent to me which shows that the age of the children is not important, yet still significant. The description of Heaneys brothers wounds are that he was wearing a poppy bruise which implies the wonder of how something so small could cause so much damage, as if hes in disbelief whereas Johnson embraces the death of his son, Exacted by thy fate. It also gives us the war imagery as poppies are worn as remembrance for the soldiers. I find the most effective poem Heaneys Mid-Term Break because I can understand it more at first glance and I think that it is more likely to draw people in because they dont have to study it in as much detail. However the detail in Johnsons On My First Sonne does stop you and leave you wandering, so I also think this is effective.

High Cost Xerox Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

High Cost Xerox - Essay Example According to Slatter, there are six major sources of cost disadvantage which can lead to a firm having to charge higher prices than its competitors.Let us analyze and apply the six factors illustrated by Slatter, to the Xerox corporation to get a better picture of the negative consequences of high over head costs: Due to staggering assets and international ventures that this long standing company had accumulated over the past few decades, Xerox's cash position had become tenuous. Its liquidity had deteriorated to the point where capital markets froze Xerox out. Cash is king in an economy in recession. like in 2000,and Xerox was crippled with assets without cash flow. High overhead costs piled up due management's obsession with expensive quality control measures during a fairly weak financial position. A perfect quality index while being admirable ,costs a lot of money. The trade-offs associated with 100% quality proved to be too large ,leading Xerox to increase its pricing scheme ,thus creating a negative competitive position. Some international and even local markets were not willing to pay the price for quality especially when Japanese low cost ,high quality products began invading the market. Xerox's biggest weakness proved to be its financial situation, and specifically the heavy debt and the low profitability. The organization was too large leading to huge over head costs.Unlike its competitors who were concentrating on more advanced and diversified technology, Xerox employees were living in the past inspite of Xerox's attempts at diversification. They still were focused on being a copier company rather than a profitable documentation company or a modern information technology company. This resulted in loss of direction .Like all giant companies, it was difficult for talented innovators and entrepreneurs to survive, and instead the mediocrity had taken over and threatened the company from the inside. The once thriving copier division was still too influential and vetoed other innovative projects .(Johan Olsson, january 1996). This made Xerox have weak credibility on the IT-business side lending it a less sophisticated image than its competition. 2. Absolute cost disadvantages which result from competitors controlling strategic variable not available to the firm itself: Let us take the example of the Japanese company Canon, which proved to be Xerox's biggest and cleverest opponent. As a late entrant in the copier market, Canon was forced to concentrate on niches where Xerox was weak. One of these was the low end, which Canon attacked with a series of progressively smaller machines, culminating, in 1982, with the launch of the personal copier. Copiers were notorious for breaking down, a propensity Xerox exploited by charging for service calls. Canon realized that to be successful, a personal copier would not only have to be cheap, it would also have to be virtually service free. Canon's revolutionary solution was to include all the key components - drum, charger,

The Death Penalty, the American Public Opinion, and the Factors Essay

The Death Penalty, the American Public Opinion, and the Factors Affecting the Americans Position on the Death penalty - Essay Example Historical crimes punishable by death in the U.S. were concealing birth, slave revolts, piracy, witchcraft, and guerrilla activity.1 In the late 1970s, lethal injection was developed as a more humane alternative than electric chair, which had been the principal execution method in the United States for more than 7 decades.2 Under discretionary statutes, juries control decisions on the death sentence of defendants which could result in arbitrary verdicts. This arbitrariness was ruled by the court as a violation of both the Eighth Amendment’s prohibition of cruel and unusual punishment and the 14th Amendment’s assurance of equal protection under the law. The constitutionality of capital punishment was questioned and the states stopped executions. In 1972, the Supreme Court decided to suspend the death penalty in all executing states. Four years after the 1972 decision, the court ruled that death penalty sentencing laws should include a set of objective guidelines that wou ld help judges and juries in deciding whether a death sentence is deserved and just. The amendments led to the death penalty’s reinstatement in 1976. The court likewise affirmed that the death sentence was constitutional under the Eighth Amendment.3 The Poll Trends Today, the American public opinion on the death penalty has only fairly changed although with far less support than in the mid-1990s when public acceptance was at a remarkable climax. In a survey performed in November 9-14, 2011 by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press and the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life, in two thousand adults, 62% are in favour of the death penalty for persons convicted of murder while 31% are opposed to it. In 1996, 78% favoured death penalty for murder offenders. Support for capital punishment then declined, dropped to 66% in 2001, 62% in 2005, and 58% in October 2011.4 In Gallup’s first survey about the death penalty in 1936, â€Å"Are you in favour of the death pe nalty for a person convicted of murder?† 59% recorded support and dropped to an unsurpassed decline of 42% in 1966, which was the first time there was more opposition than support over the 75-year course of the survey. Between 1970 and 1980, the support for capital punishment rose again and peaked in the mid-1990s.5 Factors That Might Change the Americans’ Position on the Death Penalty In some old analyses, it was recorded that not many death penalty supporters are influenced by information that death penalty is not a deterrent to crimes and that it is not cruel and unjust.6 On a recent study, 42% of respondents stated that a non-white defendant has higher probability of receiving the death sentence than a white defendant.7 In another study, 49% concurred that a black would more likely be sentenced to death than a white, and 67% agreed that a poor defendant was more likely to receive a death sentence than a non-poor.8 On a survey regarding deterrence issue, death penalt y supporters were asked if they would still support capital punishment even if new substantiation confirms that it does not decrease the rate of murders. 69% to 73% of respondents affirmed their support.9 Incapacitation: Prevents Murderers from Killing Again Life imprisonment without parole is an alternative that renders the death penalty unnecessary. From views, majority of the death penalty supporters consider incapacitation as a relatively insignificant concern. In the 1991 Gallup survey, merely 19% of supporters cited incapacitation ("Keeps them from killing again") as a basis for their support, while 50% cited retribution ("A life for a life").10 This result, nevertheless,

Maori and New Zealander Access to Healthcare

Maori and New Zealander Access to Healthcare Harry C. Abellana Jr Access To Healthcare†¦The Difference between Maoris and New Zealanders Abstract This paper will discuss and open up about the reality of cultural diversity and equality. There are different factors in which equality can be quantified but this work will focus mainly on the healthcare system of New Zealand. It would show why there are still differences on how to access it even though all people living in this land should have equal rights in benefiting from it. My work would give a little background about the history of New Zealand and its people and would slowly focus to the main topic to be discussed. Introduction The Maoris or Polynesians were one of the first settlers in New Zealand. It was a vast land mass which was rich in natural resources, may it be land or aquatic. The Maori people were strong and brave people. They would put their life on the line to protect their land. They protect it with pride as it was their own child. Different international explorer and crusaders were pretty much common during that era. They would explore new land for commerce, colonize or spread their words. New Zealand was not exempted from these explorers and due to extensive circumnavigating the world, the first Europeans set foot on this land. The Europeans would introduce a different culture and practices. They brought in goods and knowledge. They not only presented new technologies but introduced different type of diseases as well. As years passed by, New Zealand became more advanced and fortunately became a first-world country. New Zealand might be one of the best places to live in but it has its own set of problems as well because of the diverse culture that makes it especially between the Maoris and European settlers. Traditional Maori Culture and Health Problems The Maori have a very strong culture involving their traditional way of healing or the Rongoa Maori. This traditional way of healing involves different aspects. They believe in traditional herbal concoctions to be used to cure diseases. They also believe in different massage strokes and strong prayers as other ways in treating ailments. These may not have the detailed scientific background or studies to prove that their methods are effective but this is their culture. This is the way that their ancestors used to overcome their health problems. Their culture should be respected and not to be criticized. The Maori group of people also believe in their cultural safety or in the local language called Kawa Whararuruhau. This would also be a problem into the access of healthcare because they are sensitive to their life experiences. If one of their family members had a negative experience in the hospital or other healthcare facility, this would leave a stigma to their community. They would be hesitant to approach the healthcare providers and healthcare facilities. That is why healthcare providers should be sensitive to the different cultures that they encounter in their day-to-day activities. Another Maori concept that would contribute to the problem of fair access to healthcare is Tino Rangatiratanga. This is basically a social concept that they can practice their traditional culture and inculcate it to the local norms. There are certain procedures or practices that healthcare facilities cannot practice because modern hospitals are now following international health standards. Some of the Maoris cannot grasp to accept this and would like to upheave that their customs should be followed because again of the Tino Rangatiratanga social concept. Healthcare providers would have their hands tied regarding this issue because health standards should be followed and this would cause a problem to the traditional Maori culture. Toanga in the Maori culture means a highly valuable possession. This may be a physical thing or immaterial in nature. This would be a potential problem because the Toanga could be a hinder in the treatment regimen. This could cause a dilemma to the healthcare provider because the culture should be respected while giving the care necessary to the patient. Now the issue about the access to healthcare will come to play because the Maori people may be hesitant to reach out to the healthcare benefits because their culture might be encroached. There is also a Maori culture that I believe is a positive side to help alleviate the discrepancy to the access of healthcare and that is Manaakitanga. It is basically showing your kindness and hospitality to other people. The healthcare industry should inculcate this into their practice because it will lead to a positive outcome. Even though the majority of their clients are sick or ill, they should show their patients that they are welcome. This will make the patient more comfortable and this would lead to tendency that people are more motived to visit the hospital or healthcare institution to seek for help. Maoris are genetically big in nature. They have a big and strong physique. Their diet usually consists of meat and vegetables but due to the introduction and increasing popularity of junk food, health problems has been an issues. There are cases of obesity, joint pains and certain heart conditions. Smoking is also a habit that is trying to be prevented as smoking can lead to various kinds of health problems. There are also dental problems with the Maori people. They fail or rarely seek the help of dentist for their dental care. Access to Healthcare Problems New Zealand has a good healthcare system. The government divided the whole country into different District Health Boards. I believe that they have done this so that the people can easily access the hospitals in case of emergency and health concerns. Most of the costs of hospitalization are highly subsidized by the government so that it would lessen the burden to the public and promote good health. I have been in New Zealand working as a healthcare assistant in different hospitals and rest homes. I have been in the front row of being a witness on how the people can access the healthcare benefits provided by the government. I would like to start off by describing the positive and negative side of Maoris and the rest of the New Zealanders from my observation. The majority of the New Zealanders that I have met are well educated and well mannered. They are hard-working group of people and most of them have stable jobs. Their jobs would help them sustain the basic things needed in life like food, clothing and shelter. These people pay taxes that are used by the government to run the country and provide benefits to the people like healthcare. They can also afford different kind of insurances which serves as an assurance that whenever they face a health problem, someone will take care of it for them. The higher earning society can also afford private hospitals and expensive general pr actitioners or doctors. They can also afford to buy the different medications that are being prescribed to them. The negative side of having all of these much more comfortable accesses to healthcare are the biases and looking down to other sectors of the society. If you have the right resources, you will get the best healthcare services and procedures to keep your body healthy. The Maori people are good people. Don’t get me wrong but there are also Maoris that have done well for themselves in this country. They are earning good and have a very comfortable life. Again, they are brave and very proud of their culture and family. These are good traits but I would like to point out to the bad traits that some are showing. They believe that they own this land and the rest are just visitors. They are very well supported by the government but they feel that it is still not enough. We can see some on the streets begging for something even though we can observe that they are very capable of doing manual labour. I believe this is what we call of being lazy and proud. There are free services like free education to get a better life but they tend not to use it and just rely on other for their needs. Some Maoris have a job but the pay is not that high. Their income is just enough to survive on a day-to-day basis. This is where the access to healthcare becomes diff erent. While other New Zealanders have an easier access not only to government-funded hospitals but also private ones, some of the Maori people can only depend on the free ones. Money can be a factor to this problem but I also believe that culture also plays a very important part of the problem. Their culture believes in the traditional way of things and this could hold them back from seeking modern day science-based healthcare system. Their attitude also plays its part. They have a tendency of being stubborn and feel that they can do whatever they want. Now when a health condition occurs and which could not be corrected or improved by the traditional way, money plays a very important role. Yes, they have free benefits from being hospitalized but the maintenance would be a problem for them. The cost of medication can be one of the problems. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can also be an issue like for example healthier foods are much more expensive. Also their ability to accept change should be given a thought. The government is doing their part to give and promote health to everyone. They are developing programs to reach out to people and try to inform them about how to be healthy. The resources are out there but it is up to the people if they want to benefit from this. If they really want to be healthy, the person itself should be responsible for his or her own actions on how to be healthy. The Barriers Involved For me, the problem in resolving the issues on the access to healthcare is basically due to the fault of the people themselves. New Zealand’s history also plays a part. Basically, the Maoris think that the Europeans invaded them and that they are trying to get the country from them. They think that the Europeans should provide them everything that they need because they own the land. On the other hand, the government is saying that all are provided and it is up to you to grab the opportunity to benefit from it. The differences in culture, attitudes and beliefs are aspects that I believe are the causes to these problems. If these elements can be resolved and straightened out, the problem can be easily resolved. Best Practices We are now living in a modern world. Most of the people are now educated and understands more about the different cultures in the society. New Zealand is giving opportunities to other citizens of the world to come into the country and try to succeed. This move will greatly benefit the country. It will open the doors to understand different culture, religions and practices. It will be a good basis on how to implement future plans for the country that would benefit all of the people. The decisions of the country and its people will be more diplomatic and sensible that everyone can enjoy and benefit from thus preventing disputes not only in the healthcare setting but the total setting of the country. Conclusion I therefore conclude that there are different factors that affect the problem about the access to healthcare between the Maori people and other people that occupies New Zealand. Some of the factors may be education, psychosocial, physiologic or socio-economic factors. There are times that these factors cannot be mended but all the efforts are being made to make a country of different cultures work. The Maoris might feel deprived from their rights because of the feeling that their land was taken away from them. It should be explained or to make clear to them that laws are being mandated so that not only their culture is protected but all of the cultures that forms New Zealand. The key thing to resolving problems is learning to understand and compromise. Recommendation I would recommend that proper information dissemination should be promoted. Educating the people will help understand the situation of the country’s intention to help its people. This would help the government to set laws and people to understand these laws and how they can benefit from it. â€Å"References Jungersen, K. (2002). Difference between Issues and Problems

Some business managers mistakenly use the term â€Å"issue† and â€Å"problem† interchangeably; however, doing so may complicate the daily decision making processes by lumping all issues and problems together and possibly make a bad situation worse. Separating issues from problems helps to prevent smaller issues from becoming problems. This business practice is so important that there is an entire management discipline predictably called, â€Å"issue management† (IM). The Dow Jones says that â€Å"successful issue management depends on addressing concerns before they become full blown problems. 1Therefore, it is deduced that issues are smaller, less threatening and require minimal effort to find resolution – but left unchecked could expose the organization to greater risk. There is an analogy to help put this concept into proper perspective – â€Å"forgetting your lunch is an issue, but losing your job is a problem. 2 Therefore, the difference between an Issue and a problem can be explained this way, â€Å"Problems are solved. Issues need to be resolved†¦. To solve is to explain and to resolve is to separate a thing into its component parts or elements, then determine a course of action. †

Hypertension essays

Hypertension essays Hypertension is the increase of blood pressure above normal levels over an extended period of time. Anyone with a regular blood pressure reading greater than or equal to 140/90 mmHg is considered to have hypertension. Those with a blood pressure of 120/80 mmHg to 139/89 mmHg have prehypertension. Blood pressure is measure with two numbers. The top number represents the systolic pressure, which is the pressure in the arteries as the heart pumps. The bottom number represents the diastolic pressure, which is the pressure in the arteries as the heart fills. Hypertension and its treatment should not be taken lightly. If left untreated, high blood pressure can cause damage to the blood vessels, heart, kidneys, and eyes. It can also increase your risk of heart attack, stroke, and even premature death. The cause of most cases of high blood pressure is not known. However, certain people are more prone to hypertension. These include African Americans, diabetics, people with a family history of high blood pressure, and anyone over the age of 60. Hypertension affects roughly 50 million Americans and approximately 1 billion people worldwide. In order to lower your blood pressure and reduce your risk of heart disease, the first step is to take the medicine your doctor prescribed and follow the dosing instructions. But it is also important to make some simple changes in your daily routine to live a healthier life. ...

Civic Responsibilities and Individual Rights essays

Civic Responsibilities and Individual Rights essays Are our civic responsibilities as important as our individual rights? In a politically liberal society no issue can be more important than what amount of attention should be devoted, to our duties as members of a society or our own individual rights and liberties. Each individual, their surrounding society and the government responsible for overseeing them must ask this question. Which of these spheres should be granted more devotion, the society or our own individual selves. Individualism became an issue when we as people began increasingly to demand more individual freedom and started to place more value on self-chosen individual achievement over mandated national achievement. Ever since these ideas were formed into governmental ideology, as John Locke first did, conceptions of individual and civil rights and duties have come into conflict in matters of public policy. They have not so much conflicted on the grounds of their incompatibility. More frequently they have caused disputes as to where the respective boundaries of each should lie, and/or w hich should be given greater respect by people and their governments. Before continuing I would like to state that this is not an important issue in all societies, rather it is the issue of liberal societies, almost always democratic ones. The issue as I address it in this paper is one based on ideas almost, but not completely, unique to the western world, Europe and the Americas. Here I will inspect the American perspective. Several issues arise whenever attempting to address the question at hand. The Most important the issue is that of rights and duties. What are rights and duties? Are they related? What are the different kinds of rights that exist in a Liberal society, which ones are more important, and who should be given these rights? What determines eligibility for receiving these various rights, how does this relate to the issue of equality? One must first address ...

Complexity of Management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Complexity of Management - Essay Example This will not provide sufficient detail implying that certain tasks require being broken down and simplified. In this case, probably have a separate day for each category of the dishes and desserts in the buffet. This represents the complexity of management as there are a series of conventional, continuous events occurring as intricate adaptive agents work together (Lassick 2002, pp.15-16). In this example, intricate adaptive agents are brought out by the fact that we all have different preferences for various dishes and desserts at the same time these dishes and desserts are bound to be affected by temperatures where ice creams will melt for instance. As much as a buffet is a predictable event, people participating will have different energy and satisfaction levels owing to the requirement of filling a feedback form afterwards while still eating everything being offered. Looking into complexity issues is essential for management as there has been a realization that organizational st ructures, which largely give rise to complex situations, cannot be solved by traditional top-down approaches. Adaptive agents, as mentioned above, require support along with social engagement so as to resolve the complex issues they raise. In the example spreading out all the meals in the buffet over a day would be effective but one is faced with the difficulty of limited time for tasks. Social engagement calls for ideas being brought out by interactions between groups of people. This produces solutions that turn complexity into means of survival and productivity in the work place (Allen et al 2011, p.385). Recently, organizations such as Haier Group have embraced dynamic ways of working where employees are categorized into teams and operate autonomously that is, they select team leaders from among themselves as well as working on tasks that they are skilled at. This has bred innovation and productivity, which has in turn allowed the company to maintain a superior position within th e industry. Haier Group is a Chinese company that manufactures home appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines (Larson, 2013). Early Approaches to Dealing with Complexity Earlier on, strategic management approaches dealt with complexity through reduction as looking at relationships from a holistic perspective is difficult and in some cases almost impossible. This reduction proved ineffective as crucial relationships were destroyed leading to wrong interpretations and misunderstandings. Modern times have instead looked at complexity as a natural occurrence with the intention of working out the general structures along with interactions. This in turn has revived the holistic view as it applies a superior look into relationships as well as the situational environment. Research has indicated that there is no single approach towards dealing with complexity, where both holistic view and reduction tools are being combined to handle complex issues. Presently, the success of a maj ority of companies has been attributed to soft qualities, which include experience along with know-how of managers. These attributes are complex and as such require collection through information systems. Therefore, following particular designs of information systems, organizations can be able to design effective system maps of relationships. Thereby, management is better

Recruitment a Science, Selection an Art Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Recruitment a Science, Selection an Art - Essay Example This is possible by minimizing the possible errors and misplays that can occur during the processes of recruitment and selection and selecting the best personality in the benefits and interests of the organization (Roberts, pp. 26, 1997). The paper reveals the truth about the processes of recruitment and selection; by emphasizing on the difference of mechanism involved in carrying out these two interesting and sensitive processes. By using academic materials and researches carried out, the paper accentuates on the fact that during the execution of any hiring process in any business or organization; the process of employees recruitment or enlisting of potential candidate or applicants is a science but the processes or techniques involved in carryout selection of the candidates applied is an art. In order to throw light on both the subjects, it is essential to have a deep understanding and develop profound sense of the processes as to evaluate the processes as science and art. The paper first analyzes the process of recruitment in detail and studies the tools, proficiencies, and steps essential in carrying out the process of effective recruitment. Recruitment is a process of short listing or enlisting the candidates applied for a certain job opening from all the applications and job resumes received. It creates a pool of talented people extracted from the job market. The people enlisted in talent pool during and recruitment process usually matches the requirement, terms, conditions, and priorities of the business or organization. Usually, there are three different kinds or forms of recruitment carried out in organizations today, the internal recruitment, external, and the referral recruitment. Internal recruitment involves recruiting the best talented people of an organization for a sensitive and high profile project of the same organization. As the recruitment process is internal to the organization, that process is internal recruitment (Wilkinson, pp. 172, 2005). Similarly, when the recruitment includes enlisting the talent pool from existing job market outside the organization, the recruitment-taking place is the external recruitment. Referral recruitment is a process where company hires the services of an external recruiting agency in order to fill up the job vacancy with the desired candidate. The first step or technical proficiency involved in carrying out the process of recruitment is creating a job opening or making an announcement about the job position available in any business or organization. This step involves the broadcasting or delivering of information about the job openings through different technological mediums of media. The job opening information includes comprehensive details about the nature of the job, the technical skills and experience required, and description of certain other criteria necessary for the job position. After making the job-opening announcement, the recruiting committee receives a number of job letters that includes resumes of candidates willing to apply for the job. The recruiting committee shortlists the resumes that are inappropriate or that do not share any relevancy with the requirement of the organization as posted in

McDonalds use to help their employees Essay Example for Free

McDonalds use to help their employees Essay Staff are expensive and in McDonalds need to obtain permission to recruit a new member of staff. If McDonalds is struggling, they may also need agreement to replace someone who is leaving. Normally therefore there is a specific procedure managers must follow before the recruitment process can be started. Agree the Job Description The job being advertised may be new, in which case a job description needs to be devised. Even if someone is being replaced, it is useful to update the job description in case any task or duties have changed, Example of a Job Description Department : Marketing Job Title: Marketing Assistant Hours of work: 38 per week, normally 9am-5 45pm Monday-Friday with one hour lunch, but some flexibility required Salary scale: 12000-i 14000 Responsible to: Marketing Manager Responsible for: Not applicable Job purpose: to provide general support for the marketing team, to prepare marketing materials, to keep the website up to date and monitor online responses. The type of interview will depend on the job. a basic one stage interview is usual for manual or junior vacancies in McDonalds. A two stage interview in McDonalds would involve a panel of interviewers used for senior or high skill vacancies. Some interviews will include basic tests of aptitude or specific skills such as keyboarding or numeracy All interviewers in McDonalds should be trained so they know how to question candidates skilfully and fairly. They should know how to spot gaps on application forms, understand how to follow up inadequate answers and have the skills to encourage shy or reserved candidates to do their best. They must also be clear on all the laws e. g. sex discrimination, health and safety etc. They should also be able to be fair, ths involves same questions and discussions. Making an offer Once a person has been selected McDonalds makes a formal job offer. The other candidates are normally not contacted at this stage, in case the first choice refuses because then a offer can be given to the second best. Only after the offer is accepted 100% the other applicants are told they have been unsuccessful. McDonalds know that waiting for news is agonising for candidates they speed things up contacting candidates by phone so that the remaining letters can be sent quickly. Training The reason why McDonalds train there employees is to make sure there employees are learning knowledge and skills which can be used in employment. Training can be split into two parts On the job training This means that the employee is trained in the McDonalds. Many people enjoy this as it gibes them experience and enable them to do their job properly. Off the job training This means attending course elsewhere such as colleges or a training centre away for McDonalds. Skills Training Training is about gaining more skills Non transferable skills These are skills that are specific to the job held. They may be of little use in another job. E. g. training to make burgers in the restaurant provides the employee with a non transferable skill. This is not a problem unless they look for a new job, get made redundant, or skill becomes out of date. This is where McDonalds allocating people extra tasks in their jobs gives management a better idea of an employees true ability and determination. Job enrichment Where McDonalds add more interest and more difficult tasks to the job. This is done with an employee with promising potential to see just how capable the person really is. Understudying An employee is attached to a very senior manager to act as an assistant. Shadowing This is where in McDonalds an employee spends more time each week with a manager to learn what they do and to get a better idea of what problems they deal with. It is used in McDonalds to adapt a employee rapidly into a top job. Mentoring This is used in McDonalds a lot; it is where a senior manager passes on the benefits of his or her experience and wisdom to a younger employee. Project work Giving a promising employee a specific investigative project enables them to get appropriate many aspects of McDonalds and it enables them to get to know senior management. National Awards McDonalds are very keen to train and develop their employees. The government encourages McDonalds to invest time and money to be able to do this. Employees can achieve NVQs (National Vocational Qualifications. National training awards McDonalds and their employees can be granted National training awards for achieving excellence and success through training. The awards are aimed at people who have decided to improve their chances of success through learning new skills. National Vocational Qualifications The reason for NVQs is to create a national system of approved skills based qualifications for all employees. These qualifications are workplace based and they cover vocational areas such as McDonalds Administration. Training and development are vitally important for the overall efficiency and competitiveness of McDonalds. The way in which McDonalds recruit and train is excellent as there employees have generally improved. The appraisal is a good method which also helps the employees performance, because McDonalds do this every six months to analyse progression. For McDonalds, people are its most important asset. This is because customer satisfaction begins with the attitutudes and abilities of employees and committed, effective workers are the best route to success. For these reasons, McDonalds strives to attract and hire the best, and to provide the best place to work. All businesses experience staff turnover for various reasons e. g. career change, leaving the area, returning to education, a new opportunity elsewhere. Recruiting and training staff is very expensive and businesses will look to keep staff turnover to a minimum. One way of doing this is to choose wisely, and treat well. McDonalds needs people who want to excel in delivering outstanding service. To ensure the company recruits the right people, it has identified essential skills and behaviours that applicants should be able to demonstrate. For each position there is a job description outlining typical duties and responsibilities and a person specification defining personal skills and competences. Recruiting suitable applicants Under McDonalds recruitment policy, each individual restaurant is responsible for filling hourly-paid positions. The Management Recruitment department in East Finchley co-ordinates the recruitment of managers. For recruiting hourly-paid employees McDonalds use several avenues. Positions are generally advertised in the restaurant. The companys recruitment history shows this is the best method of hiring quality staff e. g. people living locally and/or friends of existing employees. McDonalds also uses local job centres, career fairs and other local facilities. It is vital to use effective hiring material with a clear message targeted at the right audience. A recruitment exercise often generates more applications than there are positions available. The manager will select the applicants to be interviewed and will conduct the interviews. Over 60% of restaurant crew are aged 20 or under and; for the majority of applicants, a job with McDonalds would be their first experience of employment. For many young people, McDonalds also offers a career opportunity. A well-run interview will identify an applicants potential to be a successful McDonalds employee. To find people who will be committed to excel in delivering outstanding service, McDonalds scripts an interview guide that helps the company predict how an applicants past behaviour is likely to influence future performance. It uses a fact-based decision-making process. The questions look for actual events or situations rather than allowing applicants to give a general or theoretical response. Interviewers look for behavioural evidence in the applicants life history that fits with the requirements of the job. The interviewer rates candidates on their responses and offers jobs to those who earn the highest ratings. McDonalds future managers come from two main sources. More than half of all salaried management positions are taken up by hourly-paid employees who earn promotion. The remainder are predominately graduates. Wherever possible, McDonalds directs applicants towards applying on line at www. mcdonalds. co. uk. People who cannot access the web can call the Recruitment Hotline, or pick up a pre-paid Business Reply Card from a McDonalds restaurant. The selection process includes an initial online psychometric test. This test produces an initial score. The applicant then attends a first stage interview and is offered On Job Experience (OJE). This is a 2-day assessment in a restaurant. Successful completion at OJE will lead to a final.
